Cookie Policy

What this covers
This page explains the cookies and similar browser storage used by this website and the Harvest Bible University student/staff portal. We keep our use deliberately minimal: strictly necessary only. It is part of our Privacy Policy.
What we use, and why
- Session cookie. Keeps you signed in as you move between pages, and remembers your place in multi-step forms such as the application. Expires when you sign out or after a period of inactivity (about two hours).
- CSRF (security) token cookie. Stops another website from submitting a form on your behalf. Expires with your session.
- "Remember me" cookie. Only set if you tick "Remember me" when signing in; it keeps you signed in on that device until you sign out. Do not tick it on a shared computer.
- Installable app. If you install the portal as an app on your phone, a small service worker makes that possible. It does not store any pages or personal data.
- Browser storage for your convenience. The library reader may store your chosen zoom level on your own device. It never leaves your browser.
These are exempt from consent requirements in the places that regulate cookies (such as the EU's ePrivacy rules and the UK's PECR) because the service cannot work without them, and Uganda's data protection law asks only that we are open about them, as we are here. They are first-party only, are never used to track you across other websites or to build an advertising profile, and are never shared with an advertiser.
What we do not use
We do not use Google Analytics, a Meta/Facebook pixel, advertising or retargeting cookies, social-media tracking buttons, or any other third-party analytics. We do not load fonts, scripts or maps from third-party sites on our own pages, so visiting them does not send your IP address to a third party. (Links that take you to another site, such as Pesapal for payment or a Zoom class link, are governed by that site's own policy.)
If that changes
Before we add any analytics or marketing cookie we will update this page and show a cookie banner that asks for your consent and sets nothing optional until you agree, with a choice as easy to refuse as to accept.
Managing cookies
You can clear or block cookies in your browser settings. Blocking the strictly necessary ones means you cannot stay signed in, and an application in progress may be interrupted.
